Trauma-Informed Yoga

Trauma-Informed Yoga is a therapeutic form of yoga, adapted from modern postural yoga and instructed by a Certified Trauma-Informed Yoga Instructor. It is derived from the ancient practice of yoga in coordination with modern neuroscience, attachment theory, mindfulness-based therapies, somatic experiencing, and polyvagal theory.

Research indicates that Trauma-Informed Yoga is most effective as an adjunct therapeutic treatment to psychotherapy for clients seeking to cope with and heal from post-traumatic stress and mood issues such as depression, anxiety, and grief. It enhances awareness by combining physical movement and breathing techniques. It is also effective for reducing muscle tension and physical pain sensations.

Our instructors have specialized knowledge in addressing areas of the body that store trauma and emotional distress, so that unresolved emotions may be brought to awareness for processing and ultimate release. Trauma-Informed Yoga promotes feelings of safety and grounding through this process, and thereby enhances and accelerates work being done in psychotherapy.

Instruction is provided in one-on-one, couples, or group format. Once a working relationship has been established, our instructors can also support you by creating customized recordings for your practice.

Trauma-Informed Yoga is adaptive and works to meet the individualized needs of each student — no prior yoga experience is required and differences in physical ability are not a barrier.
